The only app that actually inverts the color of pdfs so they’re not bright. Also works well with epubs. Only downside is not being able to turn pages with buttons
Love the app - good appearance settings and search features.
Maybe I’m missing something - while I get the listed account-driven library sources, I use none of these. I’m looking for managing my PDF libraries from my iCloud Drive and local Files locations. Where are these features?
I wanted a better EPub reader than one that hasn’t been updated in 4 years. The reviews of this were good, so I bit, and chose it for my 6th gen iPad. NO instructions or manuals for the app as promised in the FAQs, and the manuals on the website were for their proprietary e-readers, not this app. NO apparent interface for importing already owned EPubs into the app, and when I went to follow the instructions to activate without subscribing to the Pocketbook store (thinking that might be the route to importing owned books), the app did not give me that option, which the FAQ and video promised. This app is updated regularly. Don’t lie to people about where to find stuff. Either you work with Apple devices, or you don’t. I am happy to have an alternative to Amazon and iBook, but why does it have to be so idiosyncratic? Also, for those of us who have to pay for data, videos are an expensive alternative to text instructions. Please give us a choice.
So...when I rotate my phone, the app loses my place and loses my color appearance settings. Useless lol. Deleted.
Just downloaded this app to try it… but it is stuck in German despite settings for English. Setting/ resetting to English had no effect. Not going to waste my time with apps that fail on something so very basic.
Good luck trying to use this to do anything besides store your book files. The interface is really really bad, you can’t access anything once you’ve opened a book and besides having to swipe through countless pages, you can’t even get back to the Home Screen. I
Whenever I want to upload a new book or pdf to the cloud, the app always crashes and stops uploading whenever I leave the app or put my phone to sleep
Maybe this is better for owners of a Pocketbook ereader, but as a stand alone app it is at best sufficient at worst disappointing. Pro: I was able to connect to my self hosted calibre server and download books Cons: -Reading progress does not sync across devices, even with a pocketbook account -No page number or even the slightest hint where you are when reading an epub -Exiting a book to go back to my library often does not work and I have to shutdown the app and restart it
I searched for a character’s name and found it 57 times but needed to go back one by one to find the correct entry. Very tedious. I think it should list all entries with a short passage to make it easy to find, ala Bluefire and others.
Toolbar is not shown and difficult to open. Voice reader sounds like a robot
It doesn’t work.
I have no idea how to get around and I am tech savvy. Can’t figure out how to get back to Home Screen. App is up to date, what is the deal? Need more affordances.
It's a good app, but it would be really awesome if users could input custom titles and covers for books
powerful function for editing and reading ebooks. beautiful surface. I hope the all can support Chinese simple , thanks.
I noticed that recently many books I saved in pocketbook could not be retrieved. I think it’s not the problem of pocketbook app but the problem of the cloud storage.
Can’t use the app at all, errors have made it completely unusable.
I haven’t been able to read anything in the Pocketbook Reader in probably 9-10 months. It simply crashes every time I open it. I’ve tried reinstalling it. I was hoping when the 5.15.5 update arrived that might change something, but no. And now it has been over 7 months since the last update (to 5.15.5). I am very disappointed, but there’s nothing I can do.
I’ve been using the PocketBook reader for some time now, and while it has its strengths, it definitely needs a major upgrade to stay competitive in today’s market. The screen quality is decent, with clear text and good contrast, but the display feels a bit outdated compared to newer devices. E-ink technology has come a long way, and the PocketBook could really benefit from a more modern, higher-resolution screen for an even better reading experience. While the reader supports a wide variety of file formats, the user interface feels clunky and could use a more intuitive, streamlined design. Navigation is often a bit slow, and the settings menu can be confusing, especially for new users. A smoother, more responsive experience would make the device far more enjoyable. Battery life is solid, but it's hard to ignore that the device still lags behind in features like built-in light customization or faster page turns, which are now standard in many competing e-readers. The dictionary and translation tools are helpful but not as seamless as they could be—an upgraded system with smarter integration would be a real game-changer. Overall, the PocketBook reader has potential, but it definitely requires significant improvements in both hardware and software to keep up with modern e-reading standards. If you’re looking for something with more polish and innovation, there are better options out there. Hopefully, future updates will address these shortcomings.
Have used this app on my iPad in the past with no issues but now it closes a split second after I open it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I'm running ios 18.2.1.
Accessing the opds source provide by calibre doesn’t switch between libraries correctly, it always accesses the content of the first library no matter how the libraries are switched.
Downloaded this app so I can convert school textbook and listen while I’m driving. After 20 mins of trying to connect to google drive, drop box etc the app just closes out on its own and won’t even open the book. What a waste of time
I love pocketbook I love to read the stories and scriptures in it I can learn the gospel truths from the prophets in all ages of time and it is very good important interesting information and I shall soon have the whole bible read
It consistently crashes on my iPad. I placed 20 books in the shared folder and it would crash when opening the app
This app is very good for pdf files (haven’t tried other types of documents yet). All you need is that save your documents into your Files folder then add it to this app. It allows you to go to certain page, save your bookmarks. Loving it.
Loaded 1 gb cbr and noticed page jumps from 102 to 1029. This does not happen in other cbr reader app for the same file.
I love this app, and I’ve loved it since the moment I found it. I’m just begging for an annotation option that allows me to write with a stylus in the pages.
Lovely features! Ability to scroll instead of reading full pages which is awesome. Lots of more accessibility than other apps I tried before this one. Only thing I wish there was is an option to toggle off the small page number (percentage of the book completed) at the bottom. Not a huge deal, will still continue using.
Has all the basic essentials
Great app for DRM content. Problems with highlighting text
I absolutely cannot stand having to close the app in order to go back to my library
The reading functionality is awesome, but the fact that there’s no way to hide or turn of the store means I can’t/won’t use it. My 5 year old can read and I want a way for him to be able to read on his tablet but he can open up the store at any time and read about anything he sees (even if I use screen time to block purchases, he can still click books to read titles and descriptions). I don’t want a store, I want to read.
Compared and tried a bunch of different reader apps to find the best one and this one is hands-down the best there is. I was very disappointed at first because the Google Drive portion is broken due to google flagging app as security issue so developer needs to update app and fix that. But then gave up on using Google Drive and transferred files to iCloud and app works perfect with iCloud and local files. I tested everything out and I am very impressed. So many options in settings along with text to speech and the page flip verse auto scroll abilities and options are outstanding. On top of everything I can’t believe this app is free because I would have even paid $5 or $10 for it because it’s that good. Bravo developers, you have an outstanding app and is truly impressive.
Their device is ok (besides the fact that i had to install koreader just to left align text, because their reader can’t do it), app is not. Importing auto opens book, very unintuitive to exit the in app reader, sometimes impossible. Sync shows books as synced but they aren’t, endless upload - show synced - not synced cycles. Pure pain. Uninstalled. Transferring via USB now, that just works - wow.
I really like this app and have used it for years because it allows me to read/take notes and be read like an audiobook. There were always minor bugs but I ignored it because of the benefits- but this app has had much more issues recently. It will delete my previous highlight when I go to copy, freeze often and automatically go back a page without being prompted. I hope the developers can find a solution to these issues.
I want to be able to scroll while searching for words. Otherwise this app is everything I could hope for in an ereader
The app is good.
This epub reader is a robust app for reading all kinds of ebook formats. Very functional and easy on the eyes. Terrific application!
Developers, please make it possible to translate the text I choose, and not just one word! It's so convenient to read a book in another language and translate the text little by little right away. But you can only translate one word. This is really missing.
Tried all day to access the hundreds of epub books I have and couldn’t find them. Found them with another app
By far the best dedicated document reader I've used.
I have to reset the text everytime when I open book.
Thank you for easy reading
This would be a great app if you could organize your books into your own custom categories. In this app, you have to sort your books by “is read”, “reading now”, “to-read”, etc. It would be helpful if we could create our own categories to put our books into. For example, I need to separate my spiritual books from my mystery books, my school textbooks from my knitting books. Next time you update, please allow us to edit and name our own categories, and allow us to organize our books into our own shelves or files. I want to be able to separate my non-fiction from my fiction. It would make the layout more simple, easier, faster, and convenient to access. The organization would be less of a pain and more of a shortcut. Otherwise, the app is perfect, easy on the eyes, easy to utilize tools while you read, and the auto scroll is a life saver. You even have text to speech with customizable settings, voices, and languages. It’s a great app overall, but the organization system is seriously non-convenient. Especially for people who read a lot of books.
This is a great app, I’m using it for GMAT test prep, it would have been better if you can annotate with handwriting using the Apple Pencil.
This create place to keep your library books that you want keep that can read manually or by audio. How awesome is that. I love it. Thanks PocketBook Reader,
I have been using PocketBook for years now and this is the first review that I have written. I must say that I love the simple interface that it has. I use it on android phones tablets and then iPhones, iPads. I highly recommended this program.
The app is fine, but ended up being awful for me. I read quite quickly with large font, and the scroll speed from swiping is limited, making it really awkward to read. I tried to find a setting for this, but could not.
This is my favorite ebook app, but found that it keeps crashing immediately after I logged in to my Google Books account on iPhone 13 Pro Max.
